Switching your supply to us is easy, find out our simple steps below:

 

We'll contact your current supplier and begin your switch over to us

Your switch date is usually 21 days from when you first asked to switch, unless you ask for the supply to be deferred to a later date. We’ll send you email updates and a welcome pack explaining your tariff and Principal Terms.

Five days prior to your switch date we'll ask you for an opening meter reading

This reading will be sent to your current supplier for them to generate your final bill, this will also be used as your starting point with Yü Energy, thus ensuring that you never pay the same bill twice and get your account off on the right foot.

Your meter reading will be checked by an independent regulator

An independent regulator will make sure meter readings are correct and in line with past records. Sometimes, when meter readings haven’t been submitted for a long period of time, these records may be slightly inaccurate.

In this case, we can dispute your final meter reading for you with your current supplier, and ensure you only pay for the energy you used. This would happen once you have received your final bill.

When will we use an estimate

We will use estimated reads where you don’t currently have a Smart Meter or where the Smart Meter has transferred over to ourselves and has reverted to a traditional meter.

Estimates are based on average usage of properties of similar size and are held by every energy supplier. They’re relatively accurate, however if you’ve recently moved in and your usage is quite different from previous tenants or owners, the estimates may be slightly off. We’ll correct this ourselves when you submit a reading to make sure you’re only being charged for energy you’re using. Ideally, it is better to submit an opening meter reading, and regular monthly meter readings going forward, to avoid the possibility of a high bill later on.

When will your current supplier send your final bill

Your current supplier can take up to 6 weeks from your switch date to send your final bill, as meter readings need to be agreed. The meter read will then be used as your opening read.

We can dispute the meter reading on your final bill if it’s very different from what’s on your meter

Your current supplier might decide they’re not going to use the reading you gave us. This can happen if the reading you submit to us is very different from the reading they were expecting. If this is the case, we can dispute the final bill for you. Just contact us letting us know you want to do this.

You have 14 days to cancel your switch

We think you’ve made the right choice joining Yü Energy, but if for whatever reason you change your mind, you’re entitled to cancel your switch over to us in the first 14 days of your switch (the ‘cooling-off period’).

Once the cooling-off period has finished, we’ll start supplying you on your switch date, but you can leave us for another supplier at any time after this.
