What is the Carbon Reduction commitment?
The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme was a mandatory government UK regulatory incentive that was in force between April 2010 and April 2019. It was designed to improve energy efficiency and cut the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of high energy users within the private and public sector.
The scheme applied to organisations with an annual consumption exceeding 6,000MWh of electricity with half-hourly billed meters. Some public bodies were required to take part in CRC regardless of their electricity usage. These were called mandated participants and they included all UK central government departments and devolved administrations.
The CRC obligation ended in April 2019.
